Gala Theatre, Durham
For the fifth year running, my Christmas and New Year was spent at the Gala Theatre in Durham, where I played Dame Widow Twanky in their brand new panto Aladdin, written and directed by Neil Armstrong and Paul Hartley.
The show went down a storm with adults and kids alike. We played to a record number of school audiences, and once again broke all box office records for the theatre.
The show was a critical success too, with audiences and reviewers raving about it:
SOME REVIEWS OF THE SHOW
“Regular Dame Paul Dunn [is] jaw-achingly funny as Widow Twanky.”
Phil Tallentire – Tees Live
“We were … soon enjoying the hilarity brought on by Paul Dunn (Widow Twanky), who I have to say is probably my favourite actor from the Gala pantos”
What’s On North East
“Paul Dunn is, without doubt, one of the most energetic Dames I’ve seen on stage … he just plays it so well.”
Hayden Parker, reporting for Celebrity Radio
“Dunn’s Twanky, while physically slight, is big in personality and command of the stage. He has a great delivery of some wonderful lines and his gurning is used to its full advantage.”
Mark Clegg – The Reviews Hub
“Paul Dunn garnering every drop of comedy.”
Ed Waugh – Sunderland Echo
“The jewel in the North-East’s panto crown …The interaction between the front row and Widow Twanky show the real professionalism of Paul Dunn.”
North East Theatre Guide
“Returning for a fifth year as Dame is Paul Dunn who is really making the role his own.”
Peter Lathan – British Theatre Guide
“Cast regulars Neil Armstrong and Paul Hartley take to the stage alongside Paul Dunn as the Dame. The three are experts in engaging audiences and waste no time in making all ages part of the show … Dunn is great fun.”
Barbara Hodgson – Chronicle Live
“Paul Hartley as Wishy-Washy and Paul Dunn as Widow Twanky are just the perfect comedy double act – look out for the quicksand sketch. Comedy gold!”
North East Family Fun website
“Returned to the Durham pantomime after a great time last year and we weren’t disappointed … The whole cast were excellent – great interaction with the audience … Widow Twanky and Wishy Washy were excellent.”
